Birth Doula
Certified Labor Doula, Childbirth International
Childbirth International is an international training organisation providing courses for birth and postpartum doulas, childbirth educators and breastfeeding counsellors. Active in over 100 countries worldwide with over 6000 students, Childbirth International works towards women and babies across the globe having healthier and happier experiences. The Birth Doula Certification is a very comprehensive, online-based program with online coursework complementing the development of doula skills through local, hands-on experience.
The online coursework covers three fields of knowledge necessary for a competent doula – communication and psychological support, physiology and anatomy before, during and after a birth, and practical doula skills such as relaxation techniques, massage, and understanding the challenges of the birthing process.

To build on my doula skills in German birthing culture, I decided to certify with the GfG (Gesellschaft für Geburtsvorbereitung), one of the leading and oldest organisations regarding birth in Germany. My training took a year and half, in which time I attended a total of eight two-day, weekend workshops, shadowed two perinatal classes (one for birth preparation and one after birth), observed five births, and supported and reported on one birth as a doula.
